Twins

Members like you shows people whose situation resembles yours. Around those matches, Densy Twins lets you follow members, cheer them on and earn points for doing your protocol and scanning.

Joining Densy Twins

The first time you open Twins, Densy asks a few things once:

  • A nickname. Never your real name: 3 to 20 letters or numbers. You can change it later.
  • Your country, filled in from where you are, and your city if you want (or Skip).
  • The year you were born. Others only see a range, such as 25 to 34, never the year.
  • Whether to show you in the directory. Yes is chosen for you; change it any time.

Then you pick your picture: your Google photo, a photo you upload or take, one of twelve drawn avatars with no faces, or your initials. Change it any time from Twins.

Answer Not now to the directory question and only your twins and the members you follow can open your profile. Then tap Join Twins.

What other members see about you

Your nickname, your picture, your city and country, your age range, your hair-loss stage and your progress. Never your photos and never your scan readings.

The bands are not percentages

Matches are grouped into three broad bands:

Band
A little like youThe loosest match
Quite like you
A lot like youThe closest

There is deliberately no percentage. A single number would imply a precision that does not exist, and it invites reading “50” as “half like me” when it means nothing of the kind.

Why you were matched

Where Densy can name a shared factor, it does:

  • Same stage of life
  • Same pattern of hair loss
  • Scalp in a similar state
  • Similar amount of hair

Sometimes you will see no specific shared factor is shown. That is not a bug and not an empty match. Matching also weighs a broader read of your situation that is not one nameable thing, so the match is real even where the reason cannot be summed up in four words.

Profile matches and scan-informed matches

Two kinds appear, and you can filter between All and With scan history:

KindBased on
Profile matchYour intake answers, on both sides
Scan-informed matchThose, plus how much hair you each have and the state your scalps are in

Your intake answers are enough to start matching, which is why you have matches before your first scan. Scans sharpen them.

What you can see about a match

Each match shows as a card once they have joined: their nickname, picture, place, age range, stage and progress since their first scan (or since their latest haircut). Tap the card to open their profile: their scans and finished protocol weeks, their badges and the emoticons they received. You never see their photos or their scan readings.

Following, emoticons and encouragement

  • Follow a member from their profile or card to keep up with them. They are told you followed them. Unfollow any time.
  • Send an emoticon on one of their scans or weeks: one a day to each member. Emoticons unlock with points (below).
  • Write encouragement under a scan or a finished week. Everyone who can see that activity reads it, so keep it kind, and never give medical advice. Delete yours any time, and tap Translate to read one written in another language.

Report a comment that is unkind, gives medical advice or is spam, from its menu. It is hidden for you straight away while the Densy team reads it, and the writer is not told who reported it.

Points, badges and rewards

Open My points and badges from Twins. Points come from doing your protocol, scanning, and beating your own first scan:

ForPointsAt most
A protocol session done10once a day
Every planned session of the week done25once a week
A scan done20once a week
4 weekly scans in a row40every 4 weeks
Better than your first scan, two scans in a row50once a month
A new personal best30once a month

Progress points compare you only with your own earlier scans, never with other members. After a haircut they count again from your first scan after the cut. An extra scan earns no points.

Emoticons open at 500 points, or straight away for Pioneers, and one more unlocks every 250 points, up to all eight.

Badges: First scan, First full week, 4-week streak, 12-week streak, First progress, 1,000 points, and Pioneer for Lifetime members.

Rewards come at 500 points (an extra scan), 1,000 (10% off equipment), 2,000 (another extra scan) and 3,000 (15% off equipment). Points are never spent. For a discount, tap Use my coupon and type the code at the store checkout; it works once.

Common questions

Someone disappeared from my matches. Matches change as new scans come in - yours and theirs. Nobody was removed on purpose.

Can I ask to be matched with someone specific? No. Matching is automatic. You can still find and follow anyone in the directory.

A profile says it cannot be found. That member left the directory, and you are not matched to them and do not follow them.

Their progress looks better than mine on the same routine. Each member’s progress is measured against their own first scan, and readings are not calibrated between people, so your figure against theirs is not a like-for-like. What is comparable is the direction each of you is moving.
